Program Spotlight
Among the many innovative Workforce Development department’s Vocational Service Coordination programs started by Goodwill® is our recent graphic arts job coaching opportunity for two clients in the Frederick area.  Each client demonstrates the talent and interest in graphic arts training and career development; both have the motivation and potential skills to accomplish this goal.

Through the diligence of Job Coach Cindy Holden, Patrick cultivates his talents in graphic arts through ongoing projects and job shadowing at sites such as Sir Speedy Printing and the Frederick News-Post.  By working with a job coach, he can learn the expectations of an employer and realistically chart his future course of education and eventual employment in this field.

Kyle also works with Cindy in this creative field, having shown his abilities despite his physical limitations.  When he and Patrick work together with Cindy at Goodwill®, they tend to encourage each other to excel and find new challenges.  This atmosphere is primarily what can determine the difference between effective job coaching and ultimate discouragement for a client.  “We work together to review areas of interest and capability for each client; then, we determine how far we can take each project to build a portfolio of work they can be proud of,” says Holden, also a professional photographer.

Goodwill® is hoping to expand this area by recruiting more clients with an interest in graphic arts.  This new program is proof that “creativity knows NO boundaries.”

Goodwill® Industries of Monocacy Valley’s mission is to “Create Hope, Jobs and Futures in Our Community.”  As a member organization of Goodwill® Industries International, we embrace this mission with commitment and a spirit of inclusiveness.

This mission is reflected throughout our Goodwill(R) organization - from our senior staff to our retail operations personnel; from members of our board of directors to our job coaches. As we plan for 2010 and beyond, we continue to be guided by the values inherent in our mission - "Creating Hope, Jobs and Futures in Our Community."

Revenues from retail operations, business development, donations of vehicles, retail goods and monetary contributions all support this mission and help us in areas of program development, service delivery, quality assurance and client/customer support.

This is WHY YOU and what you do to support US are SO important!
