Celebrating 40 years
Success Story

Sandy has been with Goodwill®  since August 2007. Sandy works in the retail processing area helping the job coaches by giving clothes and hangers to the clients. She also works out in the store hanging clothes, taking out dated clothes off the racks and bringing them back to the processing area. Sandy’s dream is to work out in the community one day, a goal she set in the fall.

To help her get ready she has been taking the ABE class to improve her reading skills & a Microsoft Word computer class. In 2009, she plans to attend the Employment Service workshops to help her get ready for community employment. Some of the workshops she plans to attend are: learning to do a resume, prepare for an interview, how to dress, how to speak in public and anger management. Sandy has been a great asset to Goodwill®  and we wish her the best of luck fulfilling her dreams.

Goodwill® serves its ongoing mission of “Creating Hope, Jobs and Futures in Our Community” by offering a number of programs and services designed to meet the job-readiness needs of clients facing challenges to employment.

Whether those challenges include physical, psychological and/or social disabilities; lack of training or sufficient skills to qualify and/or advance in the workplace; those with criminal records and victims of domestic abuse, Goodwill® is there to offer a supportive environment through which clients can gain a greater sense of self-esteem, improve their knowledge and skill levels, and receive coaching on a variety of job-preparedness issues such as:

  • Resumes
  • Interview tips and mock interviews
  • Job searching, volunteer, and internship experience
  • Referral to appropriate community resources
  • Life and job skills workshops
  • Support to maintain employment

In addition to these services, each of our five (5) retail sites in the two-county area offers a job kiosk with computer access and community job board and resource information which are routinely available during regular store hours.  Please ask the store manager for the location of the job kiosk at your local Goodwill® retail store.
