    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Former Army Chief Of Staff Visits Frederick Goodwill

FREDERICK, MD – Retired U.S. Army General George Casey, who served as the Army’s Chief of Staff from 2007-11, visited Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley (GIMV) on September 26.

Casey is one of only 230 U.S. generals to reach four-star status and was designated the first senior commander of a Multi-National Force in Iraq in 2003, serving in that role from 2004-07. He was in charge of a coalition of 1.1 million military personnel from over 30 countries and an annual budget of over $200 billion.

The retired general was invited by GIMV to speak to its Board of Directors and team members as the organization commits to serving more veterans throughout the state of Maryland.

“What you’re doing here is not only important to veterans and their families, but it is also important for the ability to recruit future service members,” said General Casey. “Future service men and women will see the respect given to veterans in their community.”

In 2019, GIMV will ramp up services in the state of Maryland to veterans and their families. The organization will provide targeted support to help veterans translate their military skills to the civilian labor market, pursue additional education, participate in budget coaching and secure referrals to additional supports, like transportation, mental health services and housing.

“General Casey’s visit is an important step for GIMV in establishing a program within Maryland that will focus on a holistic approach to employment services for veterans and their families,” said GIMV president & CEO, Michael Meyer. “Input from accomplished leaders such as General Casey will shape the GIMV veteran initiative into a best practice operation.  We are grateful for his leadership and perspective”

General Casey’s visit is the capstone to additional visits with other local, state and federal leaders in regards to GIMV’s veteran services initiative.

    DIY: Bleach-Dyed T-shirt

    FashionBlog_BleachTees

Vintage concert t-shirts have always been a timeless treasure, but GoodwillMV has a trick up our sleeves (pun intended) for you to rock this look with even more attitude.

Transform your favorite vintage concert t-shirt into an art piece that is uniquely your own this season with this easy, no-fail, DIY bleaching method. In this blog, we will talk about how you can DIY your very own vintage t-shirts that don’t break the bank with just a few simple steps and common household items.

    FashionBlog_BleachTees2

Gather your supplies and set up shop in a well ventilated area – it’s time to get creative! First, pour your bleach (we used basic Clorox Bleach) into your spray bottle and secure the top.  Now, it’s time for the fun! The amount of splatter you want on your masterpiece depends on the distance of the bottle to the t-shirt (more spatter = more space). Have fun with this, you really can’t go wrong! The color will get lighter as time goes by so be patient. You can see your end result within as little as an hour, but you will get an idea of where and how your piece will turn out within minutes of the bleach application.

Another method you can use for the DIY bleach-dye effect is using the bleach cap method.  This method is messy, but totally worth it! To accomplish this effect, just pour your bleach into the cap of the bleach bottle and throw it on your t-shirt! You can be as tactful or as carefree as you want with this effect. Want to use both methods? Go for it! You were born to be wild.

Now it’s time to wait…remember your results will not completely process for about an hour. Be patient, grab your favorite pouch of Capri Sun, and rock out to your favorite throwback jams – your epic creation will be ready soon! When it’s done and to your liking, throw it in the wash on a normal cycle and air dry. Now, you are ready to rock and roll!

Let us know what you thought of this DIY and be sure to tag us in your photos using the hashtag #LWIFGoodwillMV. You can find these t-shirts and more at our Vintage Vinyl Goodwill Pop-Up in honor of Record Store Day 2018 on April 21, 2018 at Dublin Roasters Coffee in Frederick, MD from 12-4PM!

    HAVE FUN AND ROCK ON!
