A Communitywide Partnership Program
Our Community Alliance to Request Emergency Services (C.A.R.E.S.) is a communitywide partnership program designed by our Goodwill® to address EMERGENCY needs of people in the Frederick and Carroll County areas. By issuing certificates to eligible nonprofits, our organization helps to provide essential items to their clientele such as clothing, household items and bed sets to be purchased from any of our seven Goodwill retail stores.
Emergency needs may be circumstances such as:
- Job loss of primary family wage-earner
- Homelessness
- Sudden illness in family that creates need
- Flooding of family residence
- Cut in hours at place of employment
In 2012, 1,353 individuals and families received one or more C.A.R.E.S Certificates valued at $45,000 to use in our Retail Stores. Goodwill staff only issues C.A.R.E.S. certificates to individuals enrolled in a Goodwill job training program and in need of emergency help. The majority of C.A.R.E.S. certificates are issued by one of Goodwill’s partner agencies.
If you are a nonprofit agency serving people in Frederick or Carroll counties in need of C.A.R.E.S. certificates for your clients, please contact Cindy Freeman, Director of Workforce Development at (301-662-0622) ext. 205 for more information about this program.
