Supporting People to Become Employed
Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley welcomes unemployed individuals who would like to volunteer in one of our retail stores to complete community service hours required by the court system, a welfare-to-work program, a housing program and/or a lawyer prior to a court date. All individuals must be 18 years of age or older. Goodwill’s mission services supports people to become employed.
All individuals interested in completing mandatory community service hours must first successfully complete Goodwill’s Steps to Sucess job readiness program. Once completed, individuals will continue to work with Goodwill Staff to find a job while working in the store to finish their volunteer hours.
Unacceptable Criminal Backgrounds
If an individual has been found guilty or has pending charges for any of the following offenses Goodwill cannot accept you as a volunteer:
- Sexual Offense
- Distribution of drugs
- Theft
- Assault
- Weapons/Firearms charges
Please note Goodwill reserves the right to refuse any offense not listed.
Types of Work Assignments
As a volunteer at Goodwill, you will perform one or more of the following tasks during your scheduled hours:
- Cleaning
- Processing Donations
- Stocking Donations
- Pulling Donations
Goodwill does not permit volunteers to work in the following positions:
- Driver
- Cashier
- Donation Attendant
- ADC Attendant
- Warehouse Laborer
A Community Service orientation will take place during the intake process on the first day of the Steps to Success Class where you will receive an Orientation Packet that clearly defines the rules and requirements of Goodwill’s C/S program.
Steps to Success Program
Goodwill’s premier job readiness program teams you up with an Employment Specialist who provides you with your very own job plan to prepare you for your next career step. You will leave the program with a polished resume, cover letter, job leads, and five or more completed job applications. Additional services include interview practice, and clothing assistance to help you look and stay your best… All FREE of charge.
Please see the Calendar to choose the right start day for you at one of our Career Centers. This program must be completed before you can finish your time in a Retail Store; Up to nine class hours will be applied to your total obligation.
Daily Schedule
After completing the form below you will be contacted for an orientation session with a Case Manager, where you will receive further information on your schedule. Volunteers are expected to work their scheduled hours which will be at least four hours per shift. Volunteers are not permitted to work after the store is closed.
