COMMUNITY SERVICE
Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley welcomes unemployed individuals who would like to volunteer in one of our retail stores to complete community service hours required by the court system, a welfare-to-work program, a housing program and/or a lawyer prior to a court date. All individuals must be 18 years of age or older. Goodwill's mission services supports people to become employed.
All individuals interested in completing mandatory community service hours must first sucessfully complete Goodwill's Steps to Sucess job readiness program. Once completed, individuals will continue to work with Goodwill Staff to find a job while working in the store to finish their volunteer hours.
UNACCEPTABLE CRIMINAL BACKGROUNDS
If an individual has been found guilty or has pending charges for any of the following offenses Goodwill Industries cannot accept you as a volunteer:
- Sexual Offense
- Distribution of drugs
- Theft
- Assault
- Weapons/Firearms charges
Please note Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley, Inc. reserves the right to refuse any offense not listed.
Steps to Sucess Program
- Successfully compete the 9 hour job readiness program
- The program will count toward the C/S worker's hours served
- The program will take place each week in both Frederick and Carroll Counties
- The C/S worker will receive a copy of Goodwill’s Community Service Volunteer Orientation Packet that clearly defines the rules and requirements of Goodwill’s C/S program during an intake session with a Goodwill team member.
TYPES OF WORK ASSIGNMENTS
As a volunteer at Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley, Inc., you will perform one or more of the following tasks during your scheduled hours:
- Cleaning
- Processing Donations
- Stocking Donations
- Pulling Donations
Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley, Inc. does not permit volunteers to work in the following positions:
- Driver
- Cashier
- Donation Attendant
- ADC Attendant
- Warehouse Laborer
DAILY SCHEDULE
The volunteer program is in operation whenever Goodwill’s retail stores are open: Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sundays 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Volunteers will be scheduled to work during these times in accordance with their availability. Volunteers are expected to work their scheduled hours which will be at least four hours per shift. Volunteers are not permitted to work after the store is closed.
All volunteers for all work sites are expected to work as indicated in their schedule.
