"Susan's" Story1

"Susan" moved from Baltimore to Frederick and needed to find employment. Her previous conviction for robbery and solicitation had kept her from finding a job on her own. "Susan" contacted Goodwill after hearing about its Job Search and Retention Services program.

After "Susan" explained to Goodwill's staff how her criminal background was preventing her from obtaining a job, Goodwill agreed to work with her and help her find employment. It took numerous attempts and some determination, but "Susan" was finally offered two jobs within the same week. She soon began working as a server in an area restaurant; four months later, she is still employed.

"Susan" does not want to wait tables forever, so she is taking a computer class at Goodwill, and even comes in on her days off to work in the computer lab. She hopes to find another job that will allow her to use her new computer skills; Goodwill will be there to help her achieve her dream.
