The money from the sale of your donated items helps support our vision of ending poverty through the power of work by offering no-cost career services where Marylanders can develop their digital skills, connect with career advisors, and meet directly with hiring employers. These no-cost career services are open to the public and help us provide job seekers the tools to feel confident, purpose-driven, and successful. Read more about Our Mission and how your donations help others in their road to self-sufficiency.

Donation FAQs

We accept all clothing, shoes, books, electronics, cooking accessories, furniture, jewelry, musical instruments, sporting equipment, pictures, art, tools, toys, linens and housewares. View our full donation list or bring your unneeded items to your nearest Goodwill location and a donation attendant will assist with your donations! Unfortunately, we are unable to accept unsellable items such as hazardous materials.

Unfortunately, Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley does not provide donation pick-up services.

Yes, whenever you donate to Goodwill, you will receive a receipt acknowledging the date Goodwill received your donation. See our list of estimated donation values to see what your donation is worth.

Our Estimated Donation Values list gives approximate values for what items sell for at Goodwill stores. Use these ranges as a general guide to assess the value you can claim on your tax return. Goodwill cannot assign a tax value for you. IRS regulations require taxpayers to place a value on items donated. The rules governing valuation, substantiation, and record keeping and reporting can be quite complex, however. We, therefore, recommend downloading IRS Publication 526 and IRS Publication 561 from the IRS Website and/or consulting a tax advisor if your situation so warrants.

The mission of Goodwill all starts with your donations! When you donate to your local Goodwill, you help stock our stores with your unneeded items. Purchases and donations help support our vision of ending poverty through the power of work by offering no-cost career services where Marylanders can develop their digital skills, connect with career advisors, and meet directly with hiring employers. Thanks to your goodwill, we provide job seekers with the tools to feel confident, purpose-driven, and successful!

Goodwill accepts all donations, except unsellable items such as hazardous materials. For a more complete list of the items we accept, view our What to Donate section. When we receive items we can’t sell, they are sent to our Retail Operations Center where items are sold by the pound or steeply discounted. What isn’t sold at our Retail Operations Center is then recycled. With your help, more than 200 million pounds of material is diverted from going directly to local landfills each year!
